- retch: to vomit, throw up → continuing the food theme of this section, along with the obvious references to meat, fat, salt and lard → symbolizes the Viconian cycle (beginning and ending on do) and the sevenfold rainbow, which in FW characterizes the start of a new Viconian cycle → compare this with the seven streets and scholars in the adjoining paragraph, and the seven colours of the rainbow at the bottom of the main text
- sinks down (and out): suggestive of the Viconian cycle, as our bodies cycle foodstuffs through them
