masses of shoesets = Massachusetts

Follows the word "boaston," i.e., Boston ("boaston nightgarters and masses of shoesets").

Why the reference to Boston? As a center of Irish Catholics? With a pun on "mass"?

For what it's worth, "Massachusetts" is said to mean "at the big hill."
