- invokes "Treacle Tom" who has been related (see Page 39) to Lewis Carroll or Oscar Wilde. In this case it is Carroll. The clue comes next with the use of the word "liddled" for Alice Liddell. Alice Pleasance Liddell was the inspiration for the titular character in "Alice in Wonderland". Also note her initials: APL → ALP
