I continue to be amazed at the amount of work being poured into this site by a relatively small group of rather dedicated (some might say cultish) users. Some are here for purposes involving educational coursework, while others, like myself, take a more recreational approach to the wake.
In the five plus years of the site’s existence, the amount and quality of information and presentation has increased exponentionally.
A user wrote in today to tell me of artist Stephen Crowe’s “Wake In Progress“, a growing collection of illustrations to Finnegans Wake. Funny how the Wake continues to spin off new projects so long after its publication.
There’s so much more I’d like to know about the users of this site. Where in the world are you? I wonder if I cross paths with any of you in any of my other lives here in Virginia.

I don’t know whether this might be of your interest. I am Argentinean and I’m working in a translation into Spanish of FW and so every single word I must try to find a real meaning and put it in context. The job might be endless though I’m determined to it. After all, I finished the translation of Ulysses working alone and it took me almost 3 years. It is finished and will be printed in February 2012.
As I go through the book, using several others and this wonderful site as well, I eventually find a clue – or think that I find one – and want to share with the rest of you. “shortlegged bergins” for instance sounds very much like “shortlegged virgins” and therefore I think of Gerty in Nausicaa, “she’s lame, O!” Anyway, I registered but no email came back so I can’t edit. Could you please give me a hand with this?

Here I am. I am a German and every once and a while, when I feel like knocking peoples hats off their heads I thumble thru FW; that helps. We have a German translation of the FW by mr. Stündel, but it’s his view on this subject and I prefer to find my own. Thank you all for your input.

I am a newcomer to the Wake, but I find it useful to think about the cyclical nature of history when writing my own novel about the Garden of Eden. The whole Irish culture always struck deep chords within me, for example, I really enjoy the music group Afro Celt Soundsystem. I recently got into genealogy and discovered I have ancestors from Ireland, which made me happy. Finnegans Wake is fun to explore. I live in central Florida. Thanks for the site, keep up the good work!
hi, i’m from brazil. in fact i registered today just to create the page for ‘forgetmenot’. i’ve never read fw just some excerpts — first i’ll improve my english, french and italian — but i’ve had a good time with dubliners, portrait and ulysses… i discovered joyce through beckett — one of my favorite’s writer.
there’s one translation of fw in my country (i think it’s the second or third translation of this book in the world) made by donaldo schuler, but i don’t like some of his ‘solutions’. so that’s why i’ll wait a little more and read in the original joycish.
I am in India. I love literature but I often think classics are overrated. I had always wanted to read and understand James Joyce, but I gave up as soon as I started.
FW is too complex and time consuming but I’m sure it’s worth the trouble. I think you have made it easier for me and others like me to enjoy one of the most complicated works in literature.

i am in Berkeley California, one of a Finnegans Wake reading group that lasted 20+ years and then de-volved into reading inferior works: Shakespeare, Borges, and set rah.
I take part in a coupla FW listservs and try to ass wage my FW thirst that weigh.

I live in Michigan, in the US, and have been reading and studying James Joyce in general, and Finnegans Wake in particular, since I was 14. My (fascination? Obsession? Something.) with FW really took hold of me a year ago when I picked it up and decided to read at least a little of it, no matter how little I understood. Then, to my shock, things started to make sense. The words no longer seemed randomly chosen. To the contrary: I found that there was meaning not only in the words, but the order in which they were written, beginning with the very first line, and the words “Eve and Adam’s”, as opposed to “Adam and Eve’s”. Ever since then, I’ve been reading the same first fifteen or so pages every couple of days, determined that I would not move on until I understood it, sometimes focussing on indevidual portions and then moving on, not really sure why, but understanding that there is more to this novel than I and most of the literary world think. Which is why I’m really glad I found this site, as it will allow me to continue past the first fifteen pages, and finally be able to view this entire book as a cohesive whole.
