'Yankee Doodle' is a well-known American song, often sung patriotically today (although originally satirical).

Yankee Doodle went to town,
Riding on a pony;
Stuck a feather in his hat,
And called it macaroni.
Yankee Doodle, keep it up,
Yankee Doodle dandy;
Mind the music and the step,
And with the girls be handy!

The song's origins were in a pre-United States Revolutionary War song originally sung by British military officers to mock the disheveled, unorganized colonial "Yankees" with whom they served in the French and Indian War. At the time, the most common meaning of the word doodle had the meaning of "simpleton" or "fool". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yankee_Doodle
