Havvah-ban-Annah

• "Yes! we have no bananas!:" American hit song from the 1922 musical Make it Snappy. The song us based on an actual banana shortage caused by a plant disease. (cf. "yea, he hath no mananas", p. 170)

• Havvah or Hawwah: The Hebrew name (חַוָּה) for Eve, the first woman. The name is rendered as "life" or "source of life". The name Hava is used in Latin in the Vulgate of the Old Testament.

• ban: somewhere between the Hebrew words ben – son and bat – daughter, thus Eve (Issy) daughter of Anna, paralel with the Virgin Mary daughter of Saint Anne.

• Annah: Saint Anne, the mother of the virgin Mary through the immaculate conception. The name of Mary's mother occurs only in the Apocrypha.
