  • hokmah: (Hebrew) wisdom, experience, shrewdness
  • Hokmah ... ascend: as the second emanation of the kabbalic Sephiroth, Hokmah occupies a position on the top right side of the vertical scale of the Sephiroth (tree of life), where one may hope to ascend to ultimate enlightenment
  • son of Hokmah: in Hebrew the adjective hakam is used as an honorific, this phrase alludes to such titles as that of a Torah scholar ‘Talmid Hakam’ (“student of a sage”) ... also, because of Hokmah’s role in creation in the Kabbalah and Hebrew Scriptures, it makes sense that Adam would be considered her “son”. Hokmah is also personified throughout the Hebrew Scriptures as a woman to be pursued (though in this case as mother)
  • son of Hokmah: since Hokmah is the second emanation of the sefirot, this phrase may be a reference to the third emanation, Binah, or understanding.
