Optophone

  • optophone: an instrument by which light variations are converted into variable sound so that a blind person is enabled to locate and estimate varying degrees of light. Such a device can be used to aquire visual information by hearing differences in sound as an object is scanned by the optophone, e.g., the contrast between black ink and white paper on a printed page. The first such device was constructed by E. E. Fournier d’Albe in 1912 → File:Book.PNG
